Ugly.
Need more effort, it shows in face offs. It almost feels like when the lost Simmer some of the vets lost some swagger

I keep looking at it and I just can't talk myself into believing they're gonna make it -- as I said a couple of days ago, I am glad they gave themselves a puncher's chance. I think they could catch Pittsburgh but I just don't believe Carolina, Columbus and/or Montreal are going to lose enough games for the Flyers to catch up
That being said, again, I am glad they are winning hockey games. I like watching them play again -- even though the game against the Devils was not pretty -- when earlier this season, it was painful watching them play
I have hope again. Not in any one player, or the goaltender, or whoever the coach may or may not be. It's hard to put my finger on any one thing that truly bothered me over the past few years because I understood what Hextall was trying to do and still don't think Hakstol was a bad coach, but it feels like some of the things that didn't help them, like wasted roster spots on guys like Lehtera, aren't what they are going to do in the future
Yeah. I, for one, have hope again. Finish the season strong, have a kick-ass offseason if they don't make it, and hopefully they make a big surge next season |

They're 2-0-1 this week. I'm not saying that's because of the Simmonds trade or that they're going to make playoffs but I wouldnt say they've been "ugly" |

So G on the PP: that’s it, I have really seen more than enough. G belongs in his office on the left side. There is a long, highlight-filled reason that the area of the ice is named G’s Office. It is fair to argue about all the other players, who should play with the top unit and where, especially given the terrible slump earlier in the season. However, changing the one thing that is meant to always be, that’s not it.

Voracek getting cross checked in the crease and whining about a no call, then watching both proverov and hagg ignore devils in the crease while they put rebounds home is precisely the issue this team has.
If this team would punish opponents for entering the slot and take the body instead of the flailing stick check and turning their butts into the opponent against the boards, they would have a lot less goals against.
If this team on offense would go through the slot away from the puck while the puck carrier puts the puck on net for rebounds instead of wrapping it behind the net all the time we have a lot more goals than we do. |

That was nice of JVR to give up a hatty so TK could score.
NoPa’s retaliation hit on Gabriel was awesome. Great timing, too. When you least expect it...expect it. |

On offense, we do have a handful of players who routinely go to the net front. What doesn’t happen most of the time is any shots on net while one of those players are set or screening. It annoys me.

In the last 20 were 15-3-2. We made up 8 points. 2nd best record in hockey over that time. Playoffs just ain't happening but I hope we claw as close as we can get and the kids keep getting better. Bring some more guys up. See what we have |

Also saw an article that suggested an amac buy out. 1.4 next year and 1.9 the following year instead of 5 for 1 year. Kind of thinking about it makes sense. Gives us even more room to add. |

You mean boarded from behind? After.
When Severson cross-checked him in the face, Konecny was the one who came barreling in at Severson and punched him in the face.
Man, these guys just are soft and let people push them around. |

So if Simmonds or anyone else for that matter was in the lineup for the Flyers this wouldn't happen?
One thing for sure, Patrick still would of been hit, but MAYBE later Simmonds fights Gabriel or Severson...so how does that change NoPa getting face planted into the boards?
The days of "OMG they have so and so in the lineup we better be nice" are long over. Even in the 70's and 80's when goons were relevant that still didn't stop people from taking runs at Gretzky or other stars, they just fought and did it again. |

Did anyone else laugh at Bill Clement saying something like TK has to come in flying high just to be able to reach anyone. He has been on a roll with funnies lately.

With the ROW disadvantage the gap is actually more than the points in the standings. They'll be close but there just sin't enough games left to make up the gap, never know though.
As far as the other thoughts about things like wasted roster spots. I just can't understand the disconnect with some fans. Every indication points to the fact that the Flyers both now and in the past under Hextall and Hakstol, knew exactly what they were doing in both managing the roster and in developing the young players. A large majority of the heralded prospects have come into the league and looked like NHL players. Whether they started right away in the league or played some in the NHL. Whether they developed or are developing in the NHL or in the AHL. The Flyers youth program is looking like it is going to be extremely successful. What's best for a young player to spend a little extra time in the AHL so they can hit the ground running in the NHL like Myers or bring them up too soon to struggle? Yea, maybe you can argue that the Flyers are conservative with their young players. Some will argue that a player like Myers should've been up sooner. I argue that they developed him perfectly and brought him up at the right time and he's going to be a stud. As far as the use of veterans, every team does that. Every team uses veteran players as stop gaps to buy time until younger players are ready. We've seen a consistent path of it happening. The Flyers like every team, will stop using "wasted" roster spots when they don't have to. There is no problem. No need to invent that there is. |
